About
Gal Amiram Gottlieb is a Los Angeles–based, research-driven visual artist working across photography, collage, video, and artist publications. Her practice examines how photography, cartography, and archaeology function as technologies of power, shaping territorial claims and historical narratives while rendering people, places, and histories invisible. Through archival research, fieldwork, and photographic reconstruction, she investigates the political lives of images, artifacts, and contested landscapes.
Recent work includes Looting (The Fulcrum, Los Angeles, 2025), a series of hand-cut photographic collages reconstructing mosaics removed from Palestinian archaeological sites. The project is accompanied by Four Brochures, a publication series distributed through Laurel Doody Library Supply to institutional libraries and archives including Bibliothèque Kandinsky at Centre Pompidou, the Center for Curatorial Studies Library & Archives at Bard College, Los Angeles Contemporary Archive, Rietveld & Sandberg Library and the E H McCormick Research Library at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
Amiram received an MFA from ArtCenter College of Design in 2017 and a BFA from Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art in 2013. Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues including documenta fifteen (Kassel), The Fulcrum (Los Angeles), the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, and ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics (Berlin), and has been featured in Camera Austria. She has received support from Artis and has participated in residencies at ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics (Berlin), the Vermont Studio Center, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson.
